When Breguet marks an occasion, it does so with quiet mastery and bold precision. To celebrate 250 years of innovation and influence, the Maison introduces the Classique Souscription 2025. A timepiece that captures the spirit of tradition while embracing the future with effortless grace.
Taking cues from Abraham-Louis Breguet’s original "souscription" watches, this new model strips time down to its purest form. A single hand sweeps across a minimalist dial, framed by a freshly reimagined 40mm case crafted from Breguet Gold, a new proprietary alloy created for this anniversary.
Take a moment to explore what makes this anniversary edition a standout in modern watchmaking. The closer you get, the more there is to admire.
The Origin of 'Souscription'
By the mid-1790s, Abraham-Louis Breguet faced a changing world. After fleeing Paris during the Reign of Terror, he returned in 1795 to a city where royal patronage had all but disappeared. The market for lavish commissions had dried up. Breguet needed a new approach to keep his workshops running and he found it through innovation, both mechanical and business-driven.

(Abraham-Louis Breguet)
In 1796, Breguet introduced the concept of the Souscription watch (souscription is a French word meaning subscription). It was simple, practical, and revolutionary. At a time when funds were scarce—for both Breguet and his clients—he created a system where customers would pay a quarter of the price upfront to reserve a watch, with the balance due upon delivery.
This approach gave Breguet the immediate working capital he needed to continue production and, at the same time, offered clients a more accessible path to owning a fine timepiece. By securing payments in advance, Breguet could better plan his production, manage resources, and ensure each piece was built efficiently, while still upholding the technical excellence he was known for.

The watches themselves were designed with the same intelligence as the business model. They featured a single hand for telling the time, sweeping across a crisp, white enamel dial. With a robust diameter of around 61 millimeters and movements simplified down to a central barrel mounted on a single plate. They maintained the technical excellence Breguet was known for while making production more efficient.
To promote his Souscription watches, Breguet produced a dedicated brochure which was an unusual step in the 18th-century luxury market and a sign of his forward-thinking mindset. The response was strong. Over thirty years, around 700 pieces were made that represented a significant share of his workshop’s production.
With the Souscription watch, Breguet was about to open fine watchmaking to a broader and discerning audience. They reflected Breguet’s core belief that innovation should serve both art and accessibility. And they laid the foundation for ideas like modular construction, standardization, and reliable quality concepts that wouldn’t fully take root in industry until decades later.
The Classique Souscription 2025 draws its spirit from this legacy. It doesn’t simply recreate the past but also continues a vision that has shaped horology for over two centuries.
Design and Craftsmanship
The Breguet Classique Souscription 2025 draws a clean line between heritage and modern refinement, capturing the spirit of its 18th-century predecessor with materials and techniques that speak to today's connoisseurs.
At the heart of its presentation is a 40mm case forged from an exclusive new alloy called Breguet Gold. A thoughtful blend of gold, silver, copper, and palladium, this metal reflects a warm, understated sheen. Its tone was engineered to echo the soft, elegant finishes of historical Breguet pieces. A satin-brushed case middle replaces the brand’s traditional fluting, offering a smoother, more contemporary profile. The curved lugs further improve ergonomics that helped the watch feel super comfortable on the wrist.

Now let’s talk about the dial, Breguet honors the original Souscription design with a pristine white grand feu enamel face. Known for its depth and permanence, grand feu enamel requires intense, repeated firings at extremely high temperatures. This laborious technique leaves no room for imperfection.
Centered on this pure canvas is a single, flame-blued steel hand with the iconic open-tipped design, hand-curved by Breguet’s artisans.
Subtle signatures reveal themselves only when the light catches just right. The founders words are finely engraved into the enamel surface using a historic diamond-point pantograph, while a serial number and secret signature which was first introduced by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1795 to combat counterfeits are discreetly implanted into the design. These barely visible details are small assurances of authenticity and a hidden layer of craftsmanship for those who know where to look.

Completing the composition is a domed sapphire crystal with a "chevé" profile, a technical feature developed by Breguet that today serves both aesthetic and functional roles that blends seamlessly into the case’s gentle curvature.
In every element, from the alloy of the case to the calligraphy of the hidden inscriptions, the Classique Souscription 2025 demonstrates that true innovation doesn’t scream for attention. It invites closer inspection.
Technical Mastery: The Calibre VS00

Classique Souscription 2025 has the Calibre VS00, an entirely in-house, hand-wound movement built with the same philosophy that shaped Breguet’s earliest creations: simplicity, precision, and timeless engineering.
The movement sits slim within the case, measuring just 5.7mm thick with a 36mm diameter. It operates at a steady 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and delivers a healthy 96-hour power reserve off a single barrel.
Made from gold-plated brass, the movement’s color has been carefully matched to complement the warm tone of the new Breguet Gold case. This detail, subtle but deliberate, shows just how much thought went into aligning the inside and outside of the watch.
Technical refinement continues with the balance spring. The VS00 is equipped with a Nivachron™ balance-spring that features a classic Breguet overcoil—a combination that improves resistance to temperature shifts and magnetic fields while maintaining excellent isochronism, that holy grail of consistent timekeeping.
Flip the watch over, and you’ll find a backplate decorated with a special new guilloché pattern named 'Quai de l’Horloge', inspired by the winding streets and flowing rhythms of Paris’s Île de la Cité, where Breguet’s original workshop once stood. The pattern adds a sense of quiet movement and historic depth to the architecture of the movement.
Every element, right down to the blued steel screws and polished ruby settings has been created with the same level of care. Even the ratchet wheel carries a faithful engraving of Breguet’s own words from his original Souscription brochure, connecting the past and present in a way few brands could pull off so elegantly.
